Margaret – I haven’t been in Newcastle in several years; thanks for reminding me of it : ). I’ve enjoyed my trips there quite a lot.
What a great sculpture! Too funny. I’m double happy to see this because I had a pen pal in …. oh …. the mid to late 1960s from Newcastle-upon-Tyne, so the name always draws my attention.
ok, that is just a little weird..lol
Thanks for posting this. I loved it.
Oh, poor man! Why he suffer like that. Somehow it makes a unique statue.
Is this like art? Or is it for a clothing store or something?
Sooo funny! I wonder what the story is behind the sculpture. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks all for your comments. The statue is outside the Central Station Metro exit and is one of three – the other two are of a man standing and a man walking. The whole is called ‘The Man with Potential Selves’. Another version of it is at the Cumberland Hotel, Marble Arch, London.
It’s part of the Grainger Town Project that commissioned artists for various types of artwork in the area. There are also commemorative plaques celebrating ordinary people and everyday events – such as ‘Anne Huxtable waited for a friend who did not arrive 8th December 1952′.
