oops, just revisted my review of this and I see that you've already commented on my page. I loved the book What I Loved by Siri Hustvedt too! It's an excellent book.

I just reviewed this too and funnily enough our views about this book are very similar. I really hated the incest part....still can't see what the point of that was. Here's my review:

I've never read Auster. I keep meaning to though. I do like the sound of the multilayered storyline in this one.

I'd like to read Auster, but this may not be the one I should start with.

Sorry you didn't enjoy this one. Perhaps Auster is an acquired taste. I read his first several books as they came out and can't get enough of him. I just enjoy his writing, even in Invisible. Thanks for an honest review though.

Paul Auster is one author that I have problems with. I've read Oracle Night, and Travels in the Scriptorium and can honestly say I disliked those books. IMO, his writing is just too strange for my taste.

So I guess I could understand how you felt about his latest book, without even reading it.

I agree Annabel - I'd rather read a less good Auster novel, than many other novels. It wasn't all bad - I enjoyed parts of it.

I'm sorry you didn't enjoy it Margaret - but everyone's different and it's fascinating to hear about peoples' experiences with books. Admittedly, I'm a huge Auster fan - I love his trickiness, and personally think even his less good ones are better than many other novels.
