I wished that I could enjoy her books because she is such an interesting person herself. But it doesn't matter that I don't because so many people have and occasionally I've spotted made for tv movies based on her books. And I'm glad that she was able to make a good living writing. The only "famous" person that I know from this area of England is "Sting" who was born in Newcastle. I am a fan and have read his biography by Wensley Clarkson and his autobiography "Broken Music" which came out last year. Both very interesting but maybe not what you had in mind to get acquainted with your new surroundings. Have fun exploring. You are going to live a true adventure.
