I haven’t started to read And Then You Die by Michael Dibdin yet and actually it’s one that my husband has borrowed from the library, but it looks interesting and the first two sentences caught my attention:
Aurelio Zen was dead to the world. Under the next umbrella, a few desirable metres closer to the sea, Massimo Rutelli was just dead.
I think I’ll read it when he’s finished it.

I keep meaning to read more Dibdin. Unfortunately, this title always reminds me of a Railway employee who used to come and talk at the school where I taught just before every summer vacation. He would tell the children terrible stories of what had happened to ‘naughty’ children who had played on the tracks finishing every one with the chorus (in which the children joined!) “And then you die!” It was like some macabre music-hall act. I never was convinced this was the best way to get the children to take the danger seriously.
Now that’s a fabulous teaser.
