Thanks for your comments.
Margot making the map was fun - the link is <a href="http://www.world66.com/myworld66/visitedCountries" rel="nofollow">here.</a>
Maree & JaneGS, most of my reading is the UK and USA, but I was quite surprised to see the map covered in so much red .
Wendy, I've just checked your list and we do have similar likes - I also enjoyed The Poisonwood Bible, am reading Suite Francaise and have A Thousand Splendid Suns and The Tenderness of Wolves in my tbr piles.
Biblibio, I see your point, but I have should explained that the Weekly Geeks' post specified that you could use your own criteria about what you consider to be "visiting" -- whether a book is written about the country or by a native or resident of the country.

I'm not sure that's how I would do it. "The Alchemist" takes place in Spain, Morocco and across North Africa, not Brazil. While the author may be Brazilian, it seems very inaccurate as the book is not at all about Brazil or South America at all. Just a thought...

You and I have similar likes, Margaret :) Half of a Yellow Sun, Angle of Repose, The God of Small Things, and War and Peace are all right up there on my "favorites" lists. I also really enjoyed the Cazalet series when I read it years ago (I love series books like those!). I have yet to read Lawson's and Carey's books...but they are sitting on my TBR pile!

Looks like you are making some good progress in your reading around the world!

I imagine my map will show me to be an armchair traveller with a one-way ticket to Britain. I really haven't read much outside of the U.S. and UK/Ireland. When I was a teenager, my brother had me read a few Japanese novels (I remember Spring Snow) and I've had an Isabel Allende on the TBR list for the longest time. Everything I know about Botswana I learned from reading Alexander McCall Smith. Interesting post.

Margaret, I don't know how you did the map but it is such a great visual. A fun way to keep track of the book places you've visited.
