I was given this book by a friend about 20 years ago and haven't read it through yet but was looking at it about a week ago and thought I should read it. I looked it up at our library to see if any other books were written by the two ladies and couldn't find anything. Unfortunately I think this book is out of circulation. I was very surprised to see it listed on your list. Now for sure I will be reading it. Thanks

What a lovely review!! This is going on my must-buy list ASAP. What a treat to get your copy from our dear friend Nan. When I first saw the illustration you posted for this entry, I thought it looked so much like Nan's "Hill Farm."

Gautami the title is descriptive - Stillmeadow and Sugarbridge are both houses I would love to actually visit. The next best thing is to see the photos on the Stillmeadows Friends site.

Lisa, it is a beautiful book. I do hope you can get hold of a copy.

Nan, thanks again for your gift, I really appreciated it. Funnily enough I've just borrowed a P G Wodehouse book from the library as it's years since I read any of them. It is this book where she gives up on dieting, when Jill points out to her that she is does not act frustrated (she's read an article that overwight is due to emotional frustration), but just like somebody who loves to cook and that was the end of the matter.

You wrote so beautifully about this book, Margaret. I'm very, very happy you liked it. Your quotes were excellent. I agree especially with the humor. I think that's why P.G. Wodehouse isn't as appreciated - he is funny, and that's supposed to be easy, though his fans believe he may be second only to Shakespeare in use of words, etc. I don't know if it is this book, but at one point GT just gives up on dieting, and realizes she just isn't a thin person. :<) My quote book is full of quotes from this book. It really is a treasure trove of wisdom. Thanks for the wonderful, wonderful review. I hope it leads people to read more of her work.

I have never heard of this book, but it sounds absolutely charming. I love books that have no plot really but deal with the day to day things we all live through. Great quotes! I will have to see if I can find a copy of this somewhere! Thanks for the great review.
