I've just finished this and I thought it was a marvellous book! The moths aspect is quite fascinating and added another dimension to an intriguing story.

GeraniumCat, there is quite a lot about moths in the book - catching them, studying them, how the caterpillars behave and turn into pupae and eventually emerge as moths. It makes me want to find out more! As for possessions I know just what you mean - I have some things belonging to my parents (they both died years ago) that I can never part with.

Roxanne, it is indeed a creepy book. I can understand the change in name a bit - because it is about "the sister" - which one I'm not sure. I prefer the British title, which is just as well, I suppose, as I am British. Jacket designs and titles can certainly affect how I initially view a book.

I have been wanting to read that book since I have seen it advertized on the Virago Press Website. I love the name of the author. The story sounds a bit creepy and the characters very odd and mysterious. The jacket with the intersting color and design was really interesting too. Anyway it has just been released in the USA under a different name "The Sister" and it has a different appeal all around because of the jacket which dark in color with a photograph of a plaster head of a woman. I might wait to get the original version to read. It is strange how marketing can change the first impression of a book. Thank you for your thorough review.

I love moths - is there enough about them to amuse me, or must I accept it's just an attractive title, and concentrate on the story? The question about possessions is interesting, I would like to be more detached from them, but I know if I ever have to clear my mother's house (as she expects I will) that it will be very difficult to part with things I have known for so long that they feel like part of what defines me.
