I'm so, so glad I read Hardy in college. It was actually a whole course on him. Then Tom and I went over and were visiting some site when we met up with a tour that took us along with them. It was a wonderful, wonderful experience. I don't think I could read him now with all the gloom and coincidence. I could take it better at 20. :<)

I'm a huge fan of Hardy, so although I haven't yet read Wessex Tales, I'd expect it to be good. I'm glad to hear it is.

I read A Pair of Blue Eyes earlier this year and really enjoyed it. Its most famous scene (on a cliff top) wasn't shocking to me- attitudes have changed- but was still thrillingly good.
